artist's bio

Karen Honaker, born in 1955 in Columbus, Nebraska has been an artist ever since she could hold a paint brush. At the age of 6, she began formal oil painting instruction and by the time she was 21, Karen earned a fine art bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska. Being married to a Navy pilot, the subsequent twenty five years of travel and living abroad influenced Karen’s painting style and choice of medium. Ever since moving to California in 1983, Karen turned away from oils and focused exclusively on transparent watercolors. Her work appears in Watercolor Magic, October 2006, Watercolor, Spring 2005, an American Artist magazine, Best of Flower Painting 2 and Splash 3 – Ideas and Inspirations, both North Light books. Karen is a signature member of the California Watercolor Society, represented by galleries from California to Maine, and her work is included in both public and private collections.
